Hola!
I have a lot to catch you up on.
Our second lodging situation was at a biological station located just outside of Monteverde. The drive up was pretty crazy, mainly because the roads aren't paved and pretty narrow, but we made it safe and sound.
After arriving we pretty much just got settled in.
The following day was really exciting. Alexa, our MVI coordinator/guide, led us on a hike through the Cloud Forest Reserve. Here we witnessed the three-waddled bellbird and got to see howling monkeys! Experiencing the biodiversity and beauty of the rainforest was really an incredible experience.
The second day in Monteverde was filled with exciting activities. To begin, our group paired up with a group called Change the World for the day to participate in a reforestation activity to develop a corridor for the three-waddled bellbird. While working at the site we saw a tarantula! After this we ate lunch and headed off to the Monteverde Institute for stream water sampling. Here we got to see some really cool macroinvertebrates in the water which were surprisingly similar to the US (such as the mayfly). Finally, Alexa led our group for a night hike around the biological station. We saw fireflies and bats, but the craziest of all had to be the giant tarantula resting at its den!!
Now I am writing you from Playa Grande. Our group arrived at our hotel around 7 pm tonight. After eating dinner and taking a dip in the pool we are all ready for bed to prepare ourselves for our canoe trip through the mangroves tomorrow! I will update you after the adventure!
