Good afternoon
I am writing this blog from our hotel in San Jose. There is a thunderstorm occurring, so I thought this would be the perfect time to update you on my experience.
We flew into San Jose at 3 PM yesterday (Costa Rica is an hour ahead of the US). However, this was no easy task as me and Kristen spent the night at the LAX airport before boarding our final plane. Needless to say we were more than happy to finally reach our destination.
Today we visited the university of Costa Rica to listen to Rafael Mata Chinchilla give a presentation on the soils of Cost Rica. It was very interesting. Additionally, the university is currently working on an app to classify the soil orders and suborders around the country.Rafael said although there are other apps that give soil information throughout the world, local knowledge is a lot more accurate and beneficial for through research....especially because those world soil databases are often wrong. This statement really highlights the importance of traditional and local ecological knowledge.
Gotta go! About to meet the group for dinner and presentations.
Adios!
